Art is a doorway to connecting with ourselves and others. It is also a way to engage in active meditation. By participating in art, we suspend our everyday logical thinking and place ourselves in a relationship with lines, colors, and the flow of active discovery. Through collaborative art experiences, we experience the healing potential of creativity and community.
In these workshops, we had the opportunity to create visual art with a goal that is not about “expressing” but about becoming receptive to what comes to you as you consider the art you have made; thus, there is no pressure to “be creative” or “be artistic.” These workshops became a gateway to self-exploration and curiosity; a space where we delved into a question, intention, or simply an open curiosity through various creative modalities-painting, drawing, writing, and more.
Expressive arts workshops have been held at:
Crossroads4Hope Cancer Center
Columbia University
Raritan Valley Community College
The Alzheimer’s Association
National Dance Education (NDEO) conferences
Dalcroze Society of America (DSA) conferences
American College Dance (ACDA) conferences
International Conference of Dalcroze Studies (ICDS) conferences
…and more!!
